Israel's Olmert has scan to monitor prostate growth

May 20,2008  From:news/reuters

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert had a medical imaging scan on Monday as part of treatment for prostate cancer, a spokesman for the prime minister said.

Olmert went public with his early stage cancer in October, saying it would require a minor operation but that the procedure was not urgent and would allow him to continue governing.

In December, Olmert decided to postpone surgery after doctors advised him that there was no urgency for an operation.

A statement released by a spokesman in Olmert's office said that an imaging scan "confirmed the results which were discovered during previous tests". It added that "Olmert's doctors would decide how to proceed with treatment and were monitoring the situation".

The scan, which was carried out at Jerusalem's Haddassah Ein Karem University Hospital, lasted about two hours and was carried out late at night after which Olmert returned home.
