DHAKA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Flight operations at Bangladesh's Zia International Airport in capital Dhaka resumed early Monday after three hours' suspension as an Indian aircraft with about 139people on board veered off runway in the morning, officials said.
Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Sakeb Iqbal Khan Majlis told Xinhua that they suspended all take-off and landing at the airport immediately after the India's private Jet Airways' Boeing-737 aircraft slid off the runway during taking off at around 10:40 a.m. local time.
All the 131 passengers and eight crew members on the plane, from Dhaka to New Delhi, have been evacuated safely, Majlis said.
"The plane has been removed from the sight of mishap and the runway is now open for flight operations to and from Bangladesh," Nurul Islam, chief security officer of the airport, told Xinhua.
No casualties or damage to the aircraft was reported, he said, adding that none of the passengers or crew members suffered injuries due to the mishap according to initial reports.
The CAAB chairman Majlis said a four-member probe committee has been formed to find out the reason behind the mishap of the plane, which was 15-20 feet (4.5-6 meters) out of the runway.
