GENEVA, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met Klaus Schwab, founder
and chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), here Thursday to discuss the
promotion of bilateral cooperation.
Yang praised the productive cooperation between China
and the
forum over the past 30 years. He emphasized that China attached great importance to the forum's important role in global economic
and social development
and said he hoped that both sides would deepen their cooperation.
The minister expressed his views on the current economic situation, both in China
and the world,
and China's measures to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis.
The
forum will hold the Third Summer Davos Forum in China's northeastern city Dalian in September.
Yang believed that the upcoming Summer Davos Forum would certainly be a great success by soliciting worldwide support for coping with the financial crisis
and realizing economic recovery. It would also add color to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between China
and the WEF.
Schwab said he was glad to see that the WEF
and China had established
good cooperative relations. He added that he greatly appreciated China's important input in dealing with the financial crisis
and expressed the wish that both sides would strengthen their partnership to ensure the success of the Summer Davos.
The WEF, founded in 1971, is a Geneva-based non-profit foundation best known for its annual meeting in Davos, Switzland. It brings together top business
and international political leaders, select intellectuals
and journalists to discuss the world's most pressing issues.
